Indications and Dosage

Mouth/Throat
Sore throat

Adult: As 0.025% liquid: Gargle with 15 mL of undiluted liquid bid or tid. Do not swallow.
Child: >6 years Same as adult dose.

Mouth/Throat
Antiseptic, Mouth infections, Oral hygiene

Adult: As mouthwash: Rinse mouth with 15 mL or 20 mL for 30 seconds bid or tid. Do not swallow.
Child: ≥6 years Same as adult dose.

Topical/Cutaneous
Minor, superficial skin wounds, Superficial burns

Adult: As 0.025% liquid: Apply undiluted liquid onto the affected area.
Child: Same as adult dose.

Incompatibility

Incompatible with anionic surfactants (e.g. soaps).

Special Precautions

Children.

Adverse Reactions

Gastrointestinal disorders: Dental or tongue discolouration, mouth irritation.
Immune system disorders: Hypersensitivity reactions.

Patient Counseling Information

Do not use over extensive areas of the body or use for prolonged periods. Avoid contact with eyes.

Overdosage

Symptoms: Accidental ingestion of large quantities may result in pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, slurred speech, euphoria, muscle incoordination, impaired consciousness, coma, and hypoglycaemia in children. Management: Supportive treatment. Perform gastric aspiration and lavage. Administer oral or IV glucose for hypoglycaemia in children.

Description: Cetylpyridinium chloride, a quaternary cationic antiseptic with activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.
