Indications/Uses
Acute, severe pain caused by inflammatory & degenerative forms of rheumatism; RA, ankylosing spondylitis, OA & spondyloarthritis. Painful syndromes of vertebral column. Non-articular rheumatism, acute attacks of gout, renal & biliary colic, post-traumatic & post-op pain, inflammation & swelling.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 75 mg daily for 2 days, may be increased to 150 mg daily. Alternatively, 75 mg can be combined w/ other dosage forms. Max: 150 mg daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity w/ diclofenac, Na metabisulfite, benzyl alcohol, propylene glycol, mannitol, aspirin or other NSAIDs. Peptic ulcers or GI bleeding.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity w/ analgesics & rheumatism drugs; bisulphites. Severe cutaneous reactions eg, SJS & TEN. Risk of GI ulcerations, bleeding & perforation; GI disorders, history of GI ulceration, ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. Asthma, hayfever, nasal polyps or chronic airway infection. Risk factors associated w/ PUD eg, alcoholism, smoking & corticosteroid therapy. Cardiac impairment. Extracellular vol depletion eg, pre- or post-major surgery. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Hepatic & renal impairment; hepatic porphyria, hepatitis. Not to be used during pregnancy. Lactation. Not to be used in neonates. Avoid use in childn <2 yr. Elderly or debilitated patients.
Adverse Reactions
GI disorders; CNS-related effects; allergy or local reactions.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of renal adverse effects w/ acetaminophen, other nephrotoxic medications including gold compd. Increased risk of GI effects w/ alcohol, corticosteroids, glucocorticoid or corticotropin, K supplements. Inhibited platelet aggregation w/ coumarin- or indandione-derivative anticoagulants, heparin, thrombolytics; cefamandole, cefoperazone, cefotetan, plicamycin or valproic acid; other platelet aggregation inhibitors. Increased &/or decreased effect of oral antidiabetic agents or insulin. Reduced or reversed antihypertensive effects of diuretics & antihypertensives. Increased risk of GI toxicity w/ aspirin or other NSAIDs; colchicine; sulfinpyrazone. Increased leukopenic &/or thrombocytopenic effects of bone marrow depressants. Increased plasma conc of cyclosporine. Increased serum digoxin, lithium, MTX conc. Additive photosensitising effects w/ other photosensitising medications. Increased serum conc by probenecid.
