Ibuprofen
Indications/Uses
RA, OA, relief of pain due to musculoskeletal inflammation. Primary dysmenorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Analgesic & antipyretic 600-1,200 mg daily in divided doses. RA & OA 1,200-3,200 mg daily in divided doses. Dysmenorrhea 400 mg every 4 hr when necessary for pain relief. Max total daily dose: 3,200 mg. Childn 20 mg/kg daily in divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Concurrent or previous history of GI bleeding or ulcer.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity; nasal polyps, angioedema & bronchospastic reactivity to aspirin & other NSAIDs. History of & other risk factors associated w/ PUD, history of serious GI events, smoking, alcoholism, CV disease or risk of an adverse CV event, HTN, intrinsic coagulation defects, non-infectious non-inflammatory painful conditions. Patients on anticoagulant therapy. Hepatic & renal impairment. Avoid use during late pregnancy. Not recommended for childn <1 yr or <7 kg. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity; nausea, epigastric pain, heartburn, diarrhea; dizziness; dyspepsia; headache; nervousness; pruritus; tinnitus; depression; insomnia; blurred vision & other ocular reactions; thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis; abnormal LFT; renal impairment ie, interstitial nephritis or nephrotic syndrome.
