Indications and Dosage
Vaginal
Bacterial vaginosis Adult: As vaginal cream containing sulfathiazole 34.2 mg/g, sulfacetamide 28.6 mg/g and sulfabenzamide 37 mg/g: Apply 1 applicatorful of cream intravaginally bid for 4-6 days, after which, reduce the dosage to ½ or ¼ of an applicatorful bid.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to sulphonamide and kidney disease.

Pregnancy (avoid if near term).

Adverse Reactions
Pruritus, local irritation.
Potentially Fatal: Stevens-Johnson syndrome, blood dyscrasia. |

Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Sulfabenzamide, a sulfonamide, has properties similar to sulfamethoxazole. At pH 4.6, it exerts optimal bacteriostatic actions. By having a structure similar to p-aminobenzoic acid, sulfabenzamide interferes with nuclei acid synthesis in sensitive micro-organisms by preventing the conversion of p-aminobenzoic acid to coenzyme dihydrofolic acid. |
