Dexchlorpheniramine maleate
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of allergic conditions. Adjunctive therapy for anaphylactic reactions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 2 mg 4-6 hrly. Childn 6-11 yr 1 mg 4-6 hrly, max: 6 mg daily, 2-5 yr 0.5 mg 4-6 hrly, max: 3 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Acute asthma attack. Premature infants or neonates.
Special Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hypertrophy, history of bronchial asthma, increased IOP, hyperthyroidism, CV disease, HTN. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation, GI disturbances, epigastric pain.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, alcohol, TCAs, barbiturates, CNS depressants.
