Mefenamic acid
Indications/Uses
Relief of mild to moderate pain including muscular, traumatic, dental pain, headache, post-op, postpartum pain & dysmenorrhoea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initially 500 mg stat, then 250 mg 6 hrly for max 1 wk. Dysmenorrhoea Initially 500 mg stat, then 250 mg 6 hrly for max 2-3 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Inflammatory bowel disease, peptic or intestinal ulceration. Renal or hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Blood dyscrasias, coagulopathy, dehydration, epilepsy. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
GI discomfort, peptic ulceration, GI bleeding, headache, drowsiness, dizziness, visual disturbance, rashes. Occasionally, allergic glomerulonephritis, bronchospasm, precipitation of asthma.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin, aspirin.
