Tropicamide
Indications/Uses
Mydriasis & cycloplegia for diagnostic procedures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Refraction Instill 1 or 2 drops, repeated after 5 min.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Known or suspected angle-closure glaucoma.
Special Precautions
Not for IV inj. Increased risk of induced psychotic reactions & behavioural disturbances. Determine IOP & estimated anterior chamber depth of angle prior to therapy. May cause irritation due to benzalkonium Cl. Avoid contact w/ container tip & soft contact lens. Remove contact lens prior to application & wait 15 min before reinsertion. Increased susceptibility to anticholinergic drugs. Allow 5-min interval if >1 topical ophth product is used. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Hepatic & renal impairment. Not recommended during pregnancy. Lactation. Excessive use in childn. Infants, small or premature childn, childn w/ Down syndrome, spastic paralysis or brain damage.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache; blurred vision, photophobia, eye pain & irritation, ocular hyperaemia; syncope, hypotension; nausea; rash; mydriasis.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced effects w/ other antimuscarinic drugs eg, amantadine, some antihistamines, phenothiazine antipsychotics, TCAs.
