Fe deficiency anaemia Therapy for 3-5 mth until normalisation of Hb values, continue therapy for several wk or until pregnancy ends to replenish Fe stores.Pregnant women20-30 mL daily. Adult & childn >12 yr10-30 mL daily. Childn 1-12 yr5-10 mL daily.Infant up to 1 yr 2.5-5 mL daily. Fe deficiency w/o anaemia Therapy for 1-2 mth Pregnant women 10 mL daily. Adult & childn >12 yr 5-10 mL daily. Childn 1-12 yr 2.5-5 mL daily. Prophylactic therapyPregnant women 5-10 mL daily.
Should be taken with food: Take during or immediately after meal. May be mixed w/ fruit, veg juices, other liqd or w/ bottle-feed.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Fe overload eg, haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis; Fe utilisation disturbances eg, lead & sideroachrestic anaemia, thalassaemia; anaemia not caused by Fe deficiency eg, haemolytic or megaloblastic anaemia due to vit B12 deficiency.
Reconsider treatment if increased Hb by about 2-3 g/dL after 3 wk has not been achieved. Anaemia due to infections or tumours. Diabetes patients. Alcohol intolerance. May cause GI disorders & slight laxative effect due to sorbitol; allergic reactions due to Na methyl hydroxybenzoate (E219) & Na propyl hydroxybenzoate (E217). Fructose intolerance. Pregnancy & lactation.
