Fe deficiency w/o anaemia & prevention of Fe & folic acid deficiency 1 tab daily. Fe deficiency anaemia in pregnancy 2-3 tab daily until normalisation of Hb values, continue therapy w/ 1 tab daily at least until pregnancy ends to replenish & supplement increased Fe needed during pregnancy.
Should be taken with food: Take during or immediately after meals. May be chewed or swallowed whole.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Fe overload eg, haemochromatosis, haemosiderosis; Fe utilisation disturbances eg, lead & sideroachrestic anaemia, thalassaemia; anaemia not caused by Fe deficiency eg, haemolytic or megaloblastic anaemia due to vit B12 deficiency.
Reconsider treatment if increased Hb by about 2-3 g/dL after 3 wk has not been achieved. Anaemia due to infections or tumours. Na-restricted patients; contains Na 10 mg/tab. May mask vit B12 deficiency; rule out vit B12 deficiency prior to treatment due to risk of irreversible neurological dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation. Not suitable for childn ≤12 yr.
