Erythromycin stearate
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract infections, skin & soft tissue infections, ear & oral infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Mild to moderately severe infections 1-4 g daily in 2 or 4 divided doses, may be increased to 4 g daily in very severe infections. Childn 30-50 mg/kg daily at 6- or 12-hr intervals. Strep infections Administer for at least 10 days. Continuous prophylaxis of Strep infections in patient w/ history of rheumatic disease 250 mg bd.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Prolonged or repeated therapy. Hepatic or renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, allergic reactions.
Drug Interactions
Carbamazepine, cyclosporine, hexobarbital, phenytoin, astemizole, terfenadine, theophylline, digoxin, oral anticoagulants, ergotamine or dihydroergotamine, triazolam, lovastatin.
