Cyclopentolate HCl
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly Instill 1 or 2 drops, may be repeated in 5-10 min. Childn Instill 1 or 2 drops, may be repeated 5-10 min later by 2nd application if necessary.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Known or suspected angle-closure glaucoma.
Special Precautions
Severe systemic reaction to atropine. Increased risk of induced psychotic reactions & behavioural disturbances. Determine IOP & estimated anterior chamber depth of angle prior to therapy. Light sensitivity. May cause irritation due to benzalkonium Cl. Febrile patients exposed to elevated environmental temp. Avoid contact w/ soft contact lens. Remove contact lens prior to application & wait 15 min before reinsertion. Increased susceptibility to anticholinergic drugs. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Not recommended during pregnancy. Lactation. Feeding intolerance & necrotizing enterocolitis in infants. Small or premature childn, w/ Down syndrome, spastic paralysis or brain damage, known epilepsy; fair-skinned childn w/ blue eyes. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity; hallucination, confusional state, agitation, restlessness; incoherent, retrograde amnesia, dizziness, headache, somnolence; photophobia, eye pain & irritation, mydriasis, blurred vision; vomiting, nausea, dry mouth; erythema; gait disturbance, pyrexia, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced effects w/ other antimuscarinic drugs eg, amantadine, some antihistamines, phenothiazine antipsychotics, TCAs.
