Chloramphenicol
Indications/Uses
Ocular infections involving conjunctiva &/or cornea due to susceptible organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & paed Apply thin strip approx 1 cm into conjunctiva every 3 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not to be given for minor infections or prophylaxis. Avoid repeated courses & prolonged treatment. Not to be used in patients w/ preexisting bone marrow depression or blood dyscrasias. Newborn infants.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if new infections due to non-susceptible bacteria or fungi appear. Avoid repeated courses & prolonged use. May retard corneal healing. Avoid use during pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity, stinging, itching, urticaria, angioneurotic edema & allergic lid eczema; bone marrow depression & hypoplasia; blurred vision.
Drug Interactions
Caution w/ drugs depressing bone marrow function.
