Contents
Cetirizine HCl 5 mg, pseudoephedrine HCl 120 mg
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of seasonal allergy or hay fever, perennial allergic rhinitis & common cold eg, nasal congestion, sneezing, rhinorrhea, nasal & ocular pruritus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 1 tab bd. Not >1 tab every 12 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow w/ some liqd, do not chew.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cetirizine HCl, pseudoephedrine HCl, ephedrine or any piperazines. Severe HTN or CAD; uncontrolled hyperthyroidism, severe arrhythmia, increased IOP, urinary retention. Concomitant use w/ antihypertensives eg, β-blockers, sympathomimetic drugs, amphetamines; furazolidone; MAOIs w/in preceding 2 wk. Renal insufficiency. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Diabetes, hyperthyroidism, HTN, heart disease, tachycardia, arrhythmia, prostatic hypertrophy or urethral dysfunction. Concomitant use w/ antihypertensive agents, TCAs, other sympathomimetic agents (eg, decongestants, appetite suppressants, amphetamine-like psychostimulants, digitalis); alcohol. May affect ability to drive or use machines. Renal or hepatic insufficiency. Pregnancy. Childn <12 yr. Elderly >50 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, drowsiness, agitation, dry mouth, insomnia, somnolence, asthenia, tachycardia, nervousness, vertigo, nausea, GI discomfort. Skin rashes w/ or w/o irritation; urinary retention, prostatic enlargement; fear, anxiety, tenseness, restlessness, tremor, weakness, pallor, resp difficulty, dysuria, convulsions, CNS depression, arrhythmias, CV collapse w/ hypotension.
Drug Interactions
Inhibited allergy skin tests by antihistamines. Increased ectopic pacemaker activity w/ digitalis. Increased pseudoephedrine absorption w/ antacids. Decreased pseudoephedrine absorption w/ kaolin. Increased BP w/ other sympathomimetic agents eg, decongestants, TCAs, appetite suppressants, amphetamine-like psychostimulants or MAOIs. Interfered sympathetic activity effect of antihypertensive agents eg, bretylium, bethanidine, guanethidine, reserpine, debrisoquine, methyldopa, α- & β-blockers. Caution w/ sedatives.
