Hyoscine-N-butylbromide
Indications/Uses
Acute spasm, as in renal or biliary chronic, in radiology for differential diagnosis of obstruction. Reduction in spasm & pain in pyelography & in other diagnostic procedures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 20 mg IM or IV repeated after ½ hr. Max: 100 mg.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Prostatic enlargement, paralytic ileus or pyloric stenosis, closed- or narrow-angle glaucoma, porphyria. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Prostatic hypertrophy, coronary insufficiency, rhythm disorder, hyperthyroidism, chronic bronchitis, paralytic ileus, intestinal atomy, toxic megacolon. Renal & hepatic impairment. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dry mouth, increased viscosity of bronchial secretions, vision disorders, diminution of lachrymal secretion, tachycardia, palpitations, constipation, urinary retention, excitement, irritability, mental confusion in elderly.
Drug Interactions
Anticholinergics, antiparkinson drugs, imipramine, phenothiazine, H1-antihistamine, disopyramide.
