Salbutamol sulfate
Indications/Uses
Relief of bronchospasm in asthma, chronic bronchitis, other conditions involving airways obstruction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 4 mg tds-qds, may be increased to 8 mg as needed. Elderly or patient unusually sensitive to β-adrenergic stimulants 2 mg tds-qds. Childn >12 yr 2-4 mg or 5-10 mL tds-qds, 6-12 yr 2 mg or 5 mL tds-qds, 2-6 yr 1-2 mg or 2.5-5 mL tds-qds.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Not for use in premature labour or threatened abortion, 1st & 2nd trimesters of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Severe CV disorders, hyperthyroidism, DM, closed-angle glaucoma, HTN, thyrotoxicosis. Prolonged use. 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Fine tremor of skeletal muscle, palpitations, muscle cramps; hyperactivity in childn; in large doses: Slight tachycardia, tenseness, headache, peripheral vasodilation; hypokalemia.
Drug Interactions
Diuretics, theophylline, steroids, muscle relaxants, propranolol.
