Indications and Dosage
Oral
Hypercholesterolaemia, Hyperlipoproteinaemia Adult: 500 mg bid.

Administration
Should be taken with food.
|

Contraindications
Child <2 yr.

Special Precautions
Recent myocardial damage, severe ventricular arrhythmias, CV-associated syncope, prolonged QT interval, hypokalaemia, pregnancy, lactation.

Adverse Reactions
GI upsets; diarrhoea; flatulence; abdominal pain; nausea; vomiting. Hypersensitivity reactions such as angioedema.
Potentially Fatal: Fatal cardiac arrhythmias. |

Drug Interactions
Increased risk of arrhythmias with tricyclic antidepressants, class I or III antiarrhythmics, phenothiazines or drugs that prolong QT interval. Reduced plasma concentrations of ciclosporin when used concurrently.

Mechanism of Action: Probucol is a lipid-regulating drug that lowers total plasma-cholesterol concentrations, mainly by reducing low-density-lipoprotein and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Pharmacokinetics: Absorption: Limited and variable. Excretion: Mainly by the biliary system into the faeces. |
