Triamcinolone acetonide
Indications/Uses
RA, bursitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IA About ½ inj per wk or 1-2 inj per mth. Small joints, associated areas in the bursa 2.5-10 mg per inj. Knees, shoulders & other large joints 5-15 mg per inj.
Contraindications
Not for IV inj. Acute psychoses, serious fungal or viral infection, untreated acute or chronic infection including TB.
Special Precautions
Severe neurological adverse reactions w/ extradural corticosteroid inj. Patients w/ GI disorders eg, GI ulcers; kidney disease; HTN; DM; psychotic factors. Ensure adequate protein supplementation during treatment.
Adverse Reactions
Transient local discomfort, depigmentation & local atrophy, abscess formation; skeletal muscle wasting & weakness, impaired blood glucose control. Water & electrolyte imbalance, Cushing's syndrome.
Drug Interactions
Insulin & oral hypoglycaemic agents, diuretics, barbiturates, phenytoin, rifampicin, NSAIDs, pancuronium.
