Treatment of depression & prevention of recurrence. Social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
Dosage/Direction for Use
AdultDepression & OCD Initially 50 mg once daily. Panic disorder, social anxiety disorder & PTSD Initially 25 mg once daily. OCDChildn 13-17 yr Initially 50 mg/day, 6-12 yr Initially 25 mg/day. All doses may be increased to 50 mg/day after 1 wk. Subsequent dose titration may be made in 50-mg increments wkly to max 200 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs & pimozide.
Special Precautions
Monitor for signs & symptoms of serotonin syndrome or neuroleptic malignant syndrome. DM. Co-administration w/ other serotonergic drugs. Switching from SSRIs, antidepressants or antiobsessional drugs. Activation of mania/hypomania. Epilepsy or history of seizures. Bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. Suicide. Abnormal bleeding/haemorrhage. Hyponatremia. Electroconvulsive therapy. Lactose intolerance. Hepatic & renal impairment. Avoid alcohol consumption. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr. Elderly.
