Dosage/Direction for Use
Treatment of opioid dependence Initially 25 mg. May increase up to 50 mg daily. Max: 350 mg wkly. Treatment of alcohol dependence Recommended dose: 50 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Patients w/ acute hepatitis, liver failure or unbalanced hepatic cirrhosis. Opioid-dependent & opioid-positive patients. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Special Precautions
Perform liver function test before & during therapy. Renal or hepatic impairment. Monitor patients for resp depression & non-receptor mediated actions. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, headache, dizziness, irritability, asthenia, vomiting, anxiety, somnolence, difficulty sleeping, abdominal pain/cramps, low energy, joint & muscle pain, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, constipation, increased thirst & energy, feeling down, skin rash, delayed ejaculation, decreased potency, chills, sneezing, chest pain, increased sweating & lacrimation. Depression & suicidal ideation.
Drug Interactions
Opioid-containing cough & cold prep, antidiarrhoeals, opioid analgesics.
