Tramadol HCl
Indications/Uses
Treatment of moderate to severe pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr Acute pain 50-100 mg tds-qds. Patient w/ low wt 0.7 mg/kg body wt. Chronic pain Initially 50 mg or 100 mg followed by 50 mg or 100 mg 4-6 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute intoxication w/ CNS depressants. Concomitant w/ MAOIs or w/in 2 wk of withdrawal. Severe hepatic, renal (CrCl <10 mL/min) & resp impairment. Uncontrolled epilepsy. Lactation (long-term treatment).
Special Precautions
Withdrawal symptoms, drug dependence & abuse including patient w/ tendency, opioid-dependent patient, head injury, increased intracranial pressure, renal/renal dialysis & hepatic impairment, decreased level of consciousness, patient prone to convulsive disorder or shock, resp depression or patients on CNS depressants. Concomitant w/ carbamazepine, alcohol, buprenorphine & other mixed agonists-antagonists, naltrexone. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy. Childn <12 yr. Elderly >75 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, dizziness, headache, somnolence, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth, sweating, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
MAOIs, alcohol, buprenorphine, nalbuphine, pentazocine, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, TCAs, antipsychotics, other seizure threshold lowering medicinal products, warfarin, ketoconazole, erythromycin, ondansetron.
