Ketorolac tromethamine
Indications/Uses
Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-op pain following surgical procedures associated w/ low risk of haemorrhage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult >16 yr 10 mg every 4-6 hr. Elderly ≥65 yr 10 mg every 6-8 hr. Max: 40 mg daily. Duration of treatment should not exceed 7 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to aspirin or NSAIDs. Not for use as pre-op or during operation. History of PUD. Elderly or debilitated patients. Childn.
Special Precautions
Renal insufficiency. Elevation of liver enzymes. History of angioedema, bronchospasm reactivity (eg, asthma) & nasal polyps. Serious intestinal toxicity eg, bleeding, ulceration & perforation.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylaxis, fluid retention, nausea, abdominal discomfort, bowel changes, peptic ulceration, GI bleeding, drowsiness, headache, sweating, raised blood urea & creatinine & acute renal failure, purpura, thrombocytopaenia, prolonged bleeding time, post-op wound haemorrhage, epistaxis, oedema.
Drug Interactions
Methotrexate, diuretics, lithium, anticoagulants, ACE inhibitors, probenecid, oxpentifylline, other NSAIDs.
