Inactivated polio virus vaccine type 1 (Mahoney strain) 40 D-antigen unit, type 2 (MEF-1 strain) 8 D-antigen unit, type 3 (Saukett strain) 32 D-antigen unit
Indications/Uses
As primary vaccination & booster for the prevention of poliomyelitis in infants, childn & adults.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Primary vaccination From 2 mth of age 3 successive inj at intervals of 1 or 2 mth. From 6 wk of age Follow 6, 10, 14-wk schedule. Nonvaccinated adult 2 successive inj at intervals of 1 or, preferably, 2 mth. Booster Adult A 3rd dose (1st booster) is administered 8-12 mth after the 2nd inj. Childn 2 yr A 4th dose (1st booster) is administered 1 yr after the 3rd inj. A booster is given every 5 yr in childn & adolescent & every 10 yr in adult.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Imovax Polio, neomycin, streptomycin or to polymyxin B or allergic reaction following a previous inj. Postpone vaccination in case of fever or acute illness.
Special Precautions
Must not be administered into a blood vessel. Risk of bleeding in patients w/ blood disorder eg, thrombocytopenia or clotting disorders during IM administration. Patients under immunosuppressive therapy or w/ immunosuppression eg, AIDS.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site pain, fever >38.1°C. Inj site redness.
