Paracetamol 500 mg, codeine phosphate 8 mg
Indications/Uses
Relief of mild to moderate pain & reduce body temp.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adults & childn >12 yr 1-2 tab 4-6 hrly; max: 8 tab/day. Childn 6-12 yr ½-1 tab 4-6 hrly; max: 4 tab/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Diarrhoea caused by poisoning or severe bloody diarrhoea (pseudomembranous colitis), breathing difficulty or other chronic lung disease, asthma attack. Childn <6 yr.
Special Precautions
Liver or kidney disorders, Addison's disease, phaeochromocytoma, inflammatory bowel disease, gall bladder disease or gall stones, recent surgery on GIT or urinary system, enlarged prostate gland, epilepsy, head injury or raised intracranial pressure, underactive thyroid gland, muscle weakness (myasthenia gravis), low BP or shock, alcoholism, drug abuse or dependence or mental illness. Pregnancy & lactation. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions, GI disturbances, slow heart rate, palpitations, hypotension, inflammation of the heart muscle, hematological changes, painful & difficult urination, confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, spinning sensation, mood changes, depression, hallucinations, restlessness, excitation, fits, increased intracranial pressure, headache, difficulty sleeping, nightmares, reduced alertness, tolerance or dependence, blurred or double vision, extremely small pupils, trembling, unusual tiredness or weakness, malaise, low body temp.
Drug Interactions
Ciprofloxacin, MAOIs, OC, warfarin, cyclizine, metoclopramide, domperidone, guanethidine, diuretics, mexiletine, loperamide, kaolin, selegiline, phenytoin, cimetidine, atropine, hyoscine, cisapride, diazepam, hydroxyzine, tranylcypromine, amitriptyline, primidone, rifampicin, colestyramine, muscle relaxants, phenobarb, anaesth, buprenorphine, naltrexone, naloxone.
