Indications/Uses
Treatment of infections due to organisms sensitive to amoxicillin, oral prophylaxis of endocarditis related to dental procedures & acute uncomplicated gonorrhoea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >10 yr 750 mg/day in 3 divided doses. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 3 g as single dose. Childn 6-10 yr 375-750 mg/day, 2-5 yr 375 mg/day, <2 yr 100-300 mg/day, all to be given in divided doses. Dosage may be doubled in severe infections. Prophylaxis Adult 3 g as single dose before dental procedure. Childn 1-1.5 g as single dose before procedure.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins.
Special Precautions
Superinfection in prolonged use, renal impairment, pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin rash, pruritus, urticaria, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, diarrhoea; rarely, angioneurotic oedema; anaphylaxis, interstitial nephritis, crystalluria, mucocutaneous candidiasis, pseudomembranous & haemorrhagic colitis, moderate rise in AST & ALT, reversible leucopenia & thrombocytopenia, haemolytic anaemia.
Drug Interactions
OC, probenecid, allopurinol, anticoagulants, methotrexate, oral typhoid vaccine, sulfinpyrazone.
