Indications/Uses
Antidote for acetaminophen overdose to prevent life-threatening liver damage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Patient ≥40 kg Loading dose: 150 mg/kg in 200 mL of diluent administered over 60 min. Dose 2: 50 mg/kg in 500 mL of diluent administered over 4 hr. Dose 3: 100 mg/kg in 1,000 mL of diluent dextrose administered over 16 hr, >20- <40 kg Loading dose: 150 mg/kg in 100 mL of diluent administered over 60 min. Dose 2: 50 mg/kg in 250 mL of diluent administered over 4 hr. Dose 3: 100 mg/kg in 500 mL of diluent administered over 16 hr, ≤20 kg Loading dose: 150 mg/kg in 3 mL/kg body wt of diluent administered over 60 min. Dose 2: 50 mg/kg in 7 mL/kg of body wt of diluent administered over 4 hr. Dose 3: 100 mg/kg in 14 mL/kg of body wt of diluent administered over 16 hr.
Special Precautions
Interrupt treatment if serious anaphylactoid reactions occur. Patients w/ asthma or history of bronchospasm. Adjust total vol administered for patient <40 kg or those w/ fluid restriction.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting & other GI symptoms; hypersensitivity reactions; airway obstruction (bronchospasm), angioedema, dyspnoea, hypotension, shock, tachycardia, urticaria & inj site reaction eg, rash.
