Indications/Uses

DM (lowers post-prandial blood glucose levels to reduce the risk of macrovascular complications).

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult 0.2 mg tds as a single dose. May be increased up to 0.3 mg if necessary. Elderly 0.1 mg at a time.

Overdosage

View Voglinorm-0.2/Voglinorm-0.3 overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.

Administration

Should be taken with food: Take just before meals.

Contraindications

Diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic pre-coma; severe infection, pre- & post-op or w/ serious trauma; GI obstruction or predisposed to GI obstruction. Acute conditions that may potentially alter renal function eg, dehydration, severe infection, shock, concomitant use w/ IV iodinated contrast agents. Acute or chronic disease w/c may cause tissue hypoxia eg, cardiac or resp failure, recent MI, shock, hepatic insufficiency, acute alcohol intoxication, alcoholism. Renal failure or renal dysfunction (CrCl <60 mL/min). Pregnancy & lactation.

Special Precautions

Closely monitor blood sugar level & onset of GI symptoms. History of laparotomy or ileus. Patients w/ chronic intestinal disease accompanied by disturbance in digestion & absorption; w/ aggravating symptoms due to increased generation of intestinal gas (eg, Roemheld's syndrome, severe hernia, stenosis & large intestine ulcer); serious hepatic or renal disorders. Insulin may be necessary if temporary loss of blood glucose control occurs due to exposure to unusual stress eg, fever, trauma, infection or surgery.

Adverse Reactions

Diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal pain, constipation, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain & loss of appetite. Increased AST or ALT. Hypoglycemia.

Drug Interactions

Concomitant use w/ IV iodinated contrast agents may alter renal function. May enhance effects of other antidiabetic agents including insulin.
