Progesterone

Indications/Uses

Disorders related to progesterone deficit. Oral: Disorders related to progesterone insufficiency: Pre-menstrual syndrome; menstrual irregularities; benign mastopathy; premenopause; adjunct w/ estrogen in post-menopausal women; infertility due to luteal phase defect; menace of abortion or preterm delivery. Vag: To help in pregnancy: Progesterone support during ovarian insufficiency or complete ovarian failure in women lacking ovarian function (oocyte donation); luteal phase support during in vitro fertilisation cycles or during spontaneous or induced cycles in primary or secondary infertility or subfertility; threatened miscarriage or prevention of habitual miscarriage due to luteal phase deficiency up to 12th wk of pregnancy; preterm labour.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Max: Not >200 mg/intake. Progesterone insufficiency 200-300 mg daily divided into 1 or 2 intakes: 100 mg in the morning & 100 mg or 200 mg at bedtime. May be increased to 600 mg daily divided into 3 intakes to help in pregnancy. Vag Insert each cap deeply in the vagina.

Administration

Oral route: Should be taken on an empty stomach. Swallow w/ a glass of water far from mealtimes.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Severe hepatic disease.

Special Precautions

Has no effect on spontaneous premature abortion induced by genetic complications. Not for use as contraceptive. Vag: Use only in 1st trimester of pregnancy. Oral: Take care when driving or using machines as it may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
