Indications/Uses
Chronic management of hyperuricemia in patients w/ gout.
Dosage/Direction for Use
40 mg once daily. If serum uric acid >6 mg/dL after 2 wk, 80 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/o regard to antacid use.
Contraindications
Patients being treated w/ azathioprine, mercaptopurine or theophylline.
Special Precautions
Do not discontinue treatment if gout flare occurs during treatment. Monitor liver function. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Liver problems, nausea, gout flares, joint pain & rash.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma conc of azathioprine, mercaptopurine or theophylline leading to severe toxicity.
