Indications and Dosage
Oral
Hypersensitivity reactions
Adult: As hydrochloride: 25-50 mg every 4-6 hr. Max: 600mg daily.
Child: As hydrochloride: 5 mg/kg in 4-6 divided doses daily. Max: 300mg daily.
Contraindications
Neonates.
Special Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, prostatic hypertrophy, pyloroduodenal obstruction, epilepsy. Avoid operating vehicles or machinery. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation; CNS depression; antimuscarinic effects; GI disturbances.
Potentially Fatal: Blood dycrasias.
Drug Interactions
Increased sedation with CNS depressants eg, alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics, anxiolytics, sedatives and antipsychotics. Increased antimuscarinic side effects with other antimuscarinic drugs e.g. atropine, TCAs and MAOIs. May mask signs of ototoxicity caused by aminoglycosides.
Lab Interference
May suppress histamine response to allergens and thus may interfere with skin testing.

Description: Tripelennamine is an antihistamine derived from ethylenediamine with antimuscarinic and moderate sedative properties.
