Contents
Iron gluconate, manganese gluconate, copper gluconate.
Description
Each ampoule contains iron gluconate equivalent to iron 50 mg, manganese gluconate equivalent to manganese 1.33 mg and copper gluconate equivalent to copper 0.7 mg.
Tot'hema also contains the following excipients: Glycerol, glucose, sucrose, anhydrous citric acid, sodium citrate, sodium benzoate, polysorbate 80, caramel colouring (E 150 c), tutti frutti aroma and demineralized water to make 1 drinkable ampoule of 10 mL.
Indications/Uses
Iron supplement. Treatment of iron deficiency anaemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Oral Route: Ampoules are drunk after dilution in sweetened or normal water or in any other soft drink (non-alcoholic). Preferably, take the ampoule before meals but sometimes the time of the intake and the dosage must be adapted in accordance with digestive tolerance.
Curative Treatment: Adults: 100-200 mg/day (2-4 ampoules). Children and Infants >1 month: 5-10 mg/kg/day.
Preventive Treatment: Pregnant Women: 50 mg/day (1 ampoule) during the last 2 quarters of pregnancy (or from the 4th month).
Duration of Treatment: It must be sufficient to correct anaemia and to restore iron reserves wherein the adults are provided with 600 mg for women and 1,200 mg for men.
Anaemia Due to Iron Deficiency: 3-6 months depending on the depletion of reserves but may be prolonged further if the cause of anaemia is not controlled. The control of efficacy is only useful after at least 3 months of treatment. It should consist of determining the correction of anaemia [hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular volume (MCV)] and the restoration of iron stores (seric iron and transferrin saturation).
Follow strictly the duration of treatment. In all cases, strictly follow the physician's prescription.
Contraindications
Anaemia not related to iron deficiency.
Special Precautions
Drinking large quantities of tea inhibits iron absorption. Take into account the supply of sucrose 3 g/ampoule in the daily food intake. Prevention of deficiency in infants is based upon diversified food intake. Inform the physician or pharmacist systematically about all current treatment.
Adverse Reactions
Normal coloration of stools into black.
Digestive Symptoms: Gastric burns, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea.
