Fe 50 mg, manganese 1.33 mg, copper 0.7 mg
Indications/Uses
Fe deficiency anemia. Fe supplement.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Curative treatment 100-200 mg/day (2-4 amp). Childn & infant >1 mth Curative treatment 5-10 mg/kg/day. Pregnant women Preventive treatment 50 mg/day (1 amp) during the last 2 quarters of pregnancy (or from the 4th mth). Duration of treatment: Fe deficiency anemia: 3-6 mth depending on reserve depletion, may be prolonged if cause of anemia is not controlled. Control of efficacy is only useful after at least 3 mth of treatment. Determine correction of anemia (Hb, MCV) & restoration of Fe stores (seric Fe & transferrin saturation).
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Best taken before meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort. Dilute in plain/sweetened water or soft drink.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Inhibits absorption w/ intake of large quantities of tea. Consider supply of sucrose 3 g/amp/day. Prevent deficiency in infants based on diversified food intake.
Adverse Reactions
Black stool; gastric burns, nausea, constipation, diarrhea.
