Indications and Dosage
Oral
Depression
Adult: 200 mg tid.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, lactation.
Special Precautions
Stop toloxatone 6 hr before general anaesthesia. Monitor BP at the start of treatment.
Adverse Reactions
Dysuria, nausea, constipation, vertigo, insomnia.
Potentially Fatal: Fulminant hepatitis.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of serotonin syndrome with SSRI, TCA. Increased BP with sympathomimetics. Increased concentration of triptans.
Potentially Fatal: Increased risk of hypertension and CNS excitation when given with MAOI, wait for 15-20 days after end of MAOI therapy before starting toloxatone.
Food Interaction
Increased BP with large amounts of tyramine-rich food.
Action
Description: Toloxatone is a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase type-A (RIMA).
