Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate
Indications/Uses
Treatment of chronic HBV infection in adults >18 yr & HIV-1 infection in combination w/ other antiretroviral agents.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult ≥18 yr Chronic HBV & HIV infection 300 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Concomitant administration w/ emtricitabine or adefovir dipivoxil. Lactic acidosis/severe hepatomegaly w/ steatosis. Discontinuation of treatment may be associated w/ severe acute exacerbations of hepatitis. Monitor liver function tests every 3 mth & viral & serological markers for hepatitis B every 3-6 mth. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, unusual stomach discomfort, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Co-administration w/ drugs that reduce renal function or compete for active tubular secretion may increase serum conc.
