Sulfur is used on its own or together with other medicines to treat acne (pimples).
This medicine is also used to treat scabies (a skin condition caused by a tiny burrowing mite).
Apply Sulfur exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.
This medicine is available as a cream mask, ointment, lotion or soap.
To use the cream mask for acne, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands.
- Gently massage onto clean wet skin for 2-3 minutes until mask turns light blue.
- Leave on for an additional 10 minutes until dry.
- Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
To use the ointment for acne, follow these steps:
- Cleanse the skin thoroughly before application.
- Apply a thin layer over the affected area(s) 1-3 times daily.
- Leave on for 10 minutes.
- Remove thoroughly with water.
To use the lotion for acne, follow these steps:
- Wash your hands.
- Cleanse the affected area before application.
- Apply over the entire face.
- Wash your hands after using.
- Replace the cap of the bottle.
To use the ointment for scabies, follow these steps:
- Take a thorough bath before application.
- Apply and massage gently on all skin areas from the neck to the toes, including the soles of the feet.
- Leave on for 24 hours after application.
- Rinse off by taking a thorough bath.
- Repeat for 2-3 days or as directed.
To use the soap for acne or scabies, follow these steps:
- Use like any other soap. Allow lather to stay on the skin for 1-2 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly.
Avoid contact with your eyes. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine gets into your eyes. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.
Avoid contact of this medicine with fabric or metal as it may cause discolouration.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
Do not apply more than what is instructed by the doctor to make up for the missed dose.
Do not apply to broken skin.
How can I prevent mite infestation at home?
- Avoid direct skin-to-skin or hair-to-hair contact with an infested person.
- Avoid contact with the infested person’s belongings e.g. combs, hair accessories, hats, towels, clothing, bedding.
- Clean and vacuum the room of an infested person, and machine-wash and dry-clean all his/her clothing and bedding.
- If you are a close contact of the infested person, seek treatment immediately.
Sulfur may cause any of the following side effects: skin dryness, irritation and swelling.
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are using any other medicines for your acne.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
