Indications/Uses
Adjunct to diet & exercise to improve glycemic control in adults w/ type 2 DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Recommended starting dose: 100 mg once daily. Patients w/ eGFR 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 300 mg once daily. Patients w/ eGFR 45 to <60 ml/min/1.73 m2 100 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken before the 1st meal of the day.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity. Severe renal impairment; end stage renal disease (ESRD); dialysis patients.
Special Precautions
Type 1 DM or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Adverse Reactions
Female genital mycotic infections, UTI, increased urination, low BPH & blood glucose, increased blood K levels (hyperkalemia) & low-density-lipoprotein (LDL-C).
Drug Interactions
Reduced exposure of UGT inducers eg, rifampin, phenytoin. Slightly increased digoxin conc.
