Description: Salicylamide is a salicylic acid derivative but it is not hydrolysed to salicylate. Salicylate-like analgesic and antipyretic effects are inconsistent due to rapid and extensive metabolism during absorption. It may also produce hypotensive effects, through dilation of peripheral blood vessels, and CNS depression.
Metabolism: Almost completely metabolised to inactive metabolites during absoption and first pass through the liver.
