Hypocalcemia (dose depends in the normal daily recommended intakes and the severity of deficiency): Adults and Adolescents: 1-2 g daily.
Adults: Dietary Supplementation: 500 mg to 2 g, divided 2-4 times daily.
Reduction of Osteoporosis/Bone Loss with Aging: 1000-1500 mg daily.
Administration: Because the rate and/or extent of absorption of other oral medications may vary when used concurrently with calcium supplements, especially calcium carbonate, patients should be advised not to take any other oral medications within 1-2 hrs of calcium supplements.
Dosage is expressed in terms of elemental calcium. It is recommended that calcium supplements should be taken in small doses (not more than 500 mg at a time) throughout the day with 6-8 cups of water to avoid constipation.
