Indications and Dosage
Injection
Source of electrolytes and water for hydration
Adult: Dosage depends on the age, weight, clinical and biological conditions of the patient and concomitant therapy.
Child: Dosage depends on the age, weight, clinical and biological conditions of the patient and concomitant therapy.

Irrigation
General irrigation, washing and rinsing of body cavities, tissues, wounds, instruments
Adult: Use as per required.
Contraindications
Not for use in irrigation during electrosurgical procedures.
Special Precautions
Elderly. As diluent in injectable preparations: conditions that may be worsened by fluid and/or solute overload e.g. CHF, cardiac disease, severe renal impairment, oedema, hyperkalemia; monitor electolyte levels frequently. As irrigating fluids: continuous irrigation or allow the irrigating solution to stay inside body cavities may lead to possible systemic absorption; avoid irrigation which may lead to absorption into the blood.
Adverse Reactions
Hypernatremia resulting in oedema, exacerbation of CHF. Hyperkalaemia resulting in nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and bloating. Hypercalcaemia, overhydration.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of arrhythmias with digoxin.
Action
Description: Ringer's solution is an isotonic sterile solution containing sodium chloride 8.6 g/l, potassium chloride 0.3 g/l, and calcium chloride dihydrate 0.33 g/l. The solution has a pH of 5.8 (5.0-7.5) and contains sodium 147.5 mEq/l, potassium 4 mEq/l, calcium 4.5 mEq/l, and chloride 156 mEq/l. It can be used for sterile irrigation, washing, rinsing, and as diluents or vehicles for drugs used in irrigation or other pharmaceutical preparations.
Storage
Store ≤40°C. Avoid freezing and exposure to extreme heat >66°C.
