Indications and Dosage
Oral
Prophylaxis of riboflavin deficiency
Adult: 1-2 mg daily.

Oral
Riboflavin deficiency
Adult: Up to 30 mg daily in divided doses.
Child: 3-10 mg daily.

Oral
Microcytic anaemia
Adult: Associated with splenomegaly and glutathione reductase deficiency: 10 mg daily for 10 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Incompatibility
Incompatible with alkaline solutions and with tetracycline, erythromycin and streptomycin.
Adverse Reactions
Bright yellow disclouration of urine.
PO: A, C (if dose is greater than the RDA)
Drug Interactions
Rate and extent of absorption may be affected by propantheline bromide.
Food Interaction
Extent of absorption increases with food.
Lab Interference
May interfere with certain laboratory tests eg, spectrometry and flourometry test results.
Action
Description: Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is required for energy utilisation from food. It is essential for normal tissue respiration. It is also necessary for the activation of pyridoxine and conversion of tryptophan to nicotinic acid.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Readily absorbed from the upper GI tract.
Distribution: Widely distributed, including erythrocytes and liver. Crosses the placenta and enters breast milk.
Excretion: About 9% excreted in urine as unchanged drug.
Storage
Store at 15-30°C.
