Pantoprazole
Indications/Uses
Reflux oesophagitis. Stomach & duodenal ulcers. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other conditions which produce too much acid in stomach.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Gastric & duodenal ulcer & reflux oesophagitis 40 mg daily. Long-term treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other conditions in which too much stomach acid is produced 80 mg daily. Dose may be adjusted up to 160 mg given in 2 equal doses if necessary. Severe liver problem 20 mg daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
Special Precautions
Discontinue treatment in case of rise of liver enzymes & rash especially in areas exposed to sun. Prolonged use (>1 yr) may increase risk of fracture in hip, wrist or spine. Patients w/ osteoporosis; skin reaction after treatment w/ similar medicine that reduces stomach acid; severe &/or persistent diarrhoea. Rule out malignant disease. Concomitant use w/ atazanavir; corticosteroids. Do not drive or operate machines if dizziness or disturbed vision occur. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Thrombophlebitis. Headache; dizziness; diarrhoea; feeling sick, vomiting; bloating, flatulence; constipation; dry mouth; abdominal pain & discomfort; skin rash, exanthema, eruption; feeling weak, exhausted or generally unwell; sleep disorders.
Drug Interactions
May influence effectiveness of ketoconazole, itraconazole & posaconazole; erlotinib; warfarin & phenprocoumon; atazanavir; methotrexate.
