Contents
Telmisartan 40 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg
Dosage/Direction for Use
Telmisartan: 40 mg once daily. Hydrochlorothiazide: 12.5-50 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to other sulfonamide-derived drugs. Patients w/ anuria.
Special Precautions
Not for initial therapy. Hydrochlorothiazide: Perform periodic determinations of serum electrolytes to detect possible electrolyte imbalance at appropriate intervals. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Telmisartan: Impotence, increased sweating, flushing. Allergy, fever, leg pain, malaise, chest pain. Palpitation, dependent edema, angina pectoris, leg edema, abnormal ECG, HTN, peripheral edema. Insomnia, somnolence, migraine, vertigo, paresthesia, involuntary muscle contractions, hypoaesthesia. Flatulence, constipation, gastritis, dry mouth, hemorrhoids, gastroenteritis, enteritis, gastroesophageal reflux, toothache, non-specific GI disorders. Gout, hypercholesterolemia, DM. Arthritis, arthralgia, leg cramps, myalgia. Anxiety, depression, nervousness. Infection, fungal infection, abscess, otitis media. Asthma, rhinitis, dyspnea, epistaxis. Dermatitis, eczema, pruritus. Micturition frequency, cystitis. Cerebrovascular disorder. Abnormal vision, conjunctivitis, tinnitus, earache. Hydrochlorothiazide: Weakness. Pancreatitis, jaundice, sialadenitis, cramping, gastric irritation. Aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia. Purpura, photosensitivity, urticaria, necrotizing angiitis, fever, resp distress, anaphylactic reactions; hyperglycemia, glycosuria, hyperuricemia. Muscle spasm. Restlessness. Renal failure, renal dysfunction, interstitial nephritis. Erythema multiforme eg, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis eg, toxic epidermal necrolysis. Transient blurred vision, xanthopsia.
Drug Interactions
Telmisartan: Increased peak plasma & trough conc of digoxin. Hydrochlorothiazide: Potentiation of orthostatic hypotension w/ alcohol, barbiturates, narcotics. Additive effect or potentiation w/ other antihypertensive drugs. Impaired absorption w/ cholestyramine or colestipol. Intensified electrolyte depletion particularly hypokalemia w/ corticosteroids, ACTH. Possible increase responsiveness to muscle relaxants. Reduced renal clearance of lithium leading to risk of lithium toxicity. Reduced diuretic, natriuretic & antihypertensive effects w/ NSAIDs.
