Omeprazole (Inj: Na)
Indications/Uses
Cap: Duodenal & gastric ulcer & reflux oesophagitis. For control of acid secretion in pathological hypersecretory conditions eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Inj: Conditions where inhibition of gastric acid secretion may be beneficial eg, aspiration syndromes, dyspepsia, GERD, PUD & Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cap Duodenal/gastric ulcer 20 mg once daily for 2-4 wk. Reflux oesophagitis 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Pathological hypersecretory condition Recommended initial dose: 60 mg once daily. Dosage should be individualized & continued for as long as clinically indicated. Dosage >80 mg daily should be administered in divided doses. Inj Patient unsuited to receive oral therapy 40 mg by IV infusion or slow IV inj over 20-30 min.
Administration
May be taken with or without food. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Exclude possibility of gastric malignancy prior to treatment. Not recommended in pregnancy & lactation. Cap: Childn. Inj: Hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, diarrhea. Cap: Nausea, constipation & flatulence. Inj: Skin rashes.
Drug Interactions
May alter metabolism of some drugs metabolized by cytochrome P450 system. May prolong elimination of diazepam, phenytoin & warfarin. Inj: Reduced absorption of drugs whose absorption is dependent on gastric acid pH eg, ketoconazole & itraconazole.
