Cefepime HCl
Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract infection, empiric therapy for febrile neutropenia, uncomplicated & complicated UTI, uncomplicated skin & skin structure infections & complicated intra-abdominal infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
UTI (uncomplicated & complicated) 500 mg-1 g IV or IM 12 hrly for 7-10 days. Skin & skin structure infections 2 g IV 12 hrly for 10 days. Pneumonia 1-2 g IV 12 hrly for 10 days. Intra-abdominal infections 2 g IV 12 hrly for 7-10 days. Empiric treatment of fever in neutropenic patients 2 g IV 8 hrly for 7 days. Childn 2 mth-16 yr 50 mg/kg/dose 12 hrly (8 hrly for febrile neutropenic patients).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins or other β-lactam antibiotics. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylaxis, rash, pruritus, urticaria, fever, GI disturbances, vasodilation; dyspnea; headache, dizziness, paraesthesia, seizures. Phlebitis & inflammation at the inj site.
