Ketoconazole
Indications/Uses
Dermatophyte skin infections ie, tinea corporis, cruris, manus & pedis (due to Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Microsporum canis & Epidermophyton floccosum), cutaneous candidiasis & tinea (pityriasis) versicolor; seborrheic dermatitis. Provides anti-inflammatory effects & relieves pruritus symptom.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tinea corporis, cruris, manus & pedis, & cutaneous candidosis Apply to affected areas once daily or bd (depending on the severity of infection), continue at least until a few days after disappearance of all symptoms. Reconsider diagnosis if no clinical improvement is noted after 4 wk of treatment. Tinea versicolor Apply to affected areas once daily, continue at least until a few days after disappearance of all symptoms. Reconsider diagnosis if no clinical improvement is noted after 4 wk of treatment. Seborrheic dermatitis Apply to affected areas bd, continue at least until a few days after disappearance of all symptoms. Reconsider diagnosis if no clinical improvement is noted after 4 wk of treatment. Usual duration of treatment: Tinea versicolor: 2-3 wk; yeast infections: 2-3 wk; seborrheic dermatitis: 2-4 wk; tinea cruris: 2-4 wk; tinea corporis: 3-4 wk; tinea pedis: 4-6 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Do not use immediately after chronic local steroid therapy.
Special Precautions
Not for ophth use. Discontinue use if a reaction suggesting sensitivity or irritation occurs.
