Each sachet or capsule contains acetylcysteine 200 mg.
Pharmacotherapeutic Group: Mucolytics.
Acetylcysteine is a mucomodifier of the mucolytic type and facilitates evacuation of respiratory mucus. It acts on the gel phase of the mucus by cutting disulfur bridges of glycoproteins.
The molecule contains thiol (-SH) group which breaks the disulfide chair (-SS-) of glycoprotein peptide in sputum. It, then, reduce the sputum viscosity which promote mucus discharge.
Mucolytic in bronchitis, trachitis. Prevention of respiratory complications of infectious diseases. Adjuvant therapy in liver and renal diseases.
Adults and Children >7 years: 1 sachet or capsule 3 times a day.
Children 2-7 years: 1 sachet or cap 2 times daily, <2 years: 1 sachet or cap daily in 2 divided doses.
Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of Musol. History of asthma.
It is recommended to monitor for risk of asthmatic attack if used in patients with history of drug allergic reactions. Occurrence of bronchospasm should be monitored to patients with bronchial asthma.
Children and pregnant women should take prescribed medication under physician's order.
Most commonly reported side effects include fatigue, headache, somnolence, dry mouth, gastrointestinal disorders (gastralgia, gastritis, nausea, diarrhea) and allergic symptoms (rash). Alopecia, anaphylaxis and abnormal hepatic function have been reported rarely. If such events occur, reduce the doses.
Inform the physician about side effects when using Musol.
Do not take concomitantly with any other drug intended to reduce bronchial secretion and strong antitussive agents during the period of treatment with Musol.
Store in a dry place, not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light.
Shelf-Life: Sachet: 24 months. Capsule: 36 months.
