Acetylcysteine
Indications/Uses
Mucolytic in bronchitis, tracheitis. Prevention of resp complications of infectious diseases. Adjuvant therapy in liver and renal diseases.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >7 yr 1 cap or sachet tds. Childn 2-7 yr 1 cap or sachet bd, <2 yr 1 cap or sachet daily in 2 divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of asthma.
Special Precautions
Monitor for risk of asthmatic attack & bronchospasm. Pregnancy. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue, headache, somnolence, dry mouth, GI disorders (gastralgia, gastritis, nausea, diarrhea), allergic symptoms (rash).
Drug Interactions
Other mucolytics. Strong antitussives.
