Indications/Uses
Adjuvant treatment of patients w/ abnormal, viscid or inspissated mucous secretion in such conditions as acute & chronic bronchopulmonary disorders eg, pneumonia, bronchitis, emphysema, tracheobronchitis, chronic asthmatic bronchitis, tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, primary amyloidosis of the lung. Antidote for acetaminophen overdosage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr Mucolytic effect Dissolve 1 tab in a ½ glass of water. Acetaminophen overdosage 140 mg/kg & followed by oral maintenance dose of 70 mg/kg 4 hrly for 17 doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Dissolve 1 tab in ½ glass of water.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Patients w/ phenylketonuria; asthmatic patients; history of peptic ulcer, both because drug-induced nausea & vomiting. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Stomatitis, nausea, vomiting, fever, rhinorrhea, drowsiness, clamminess, chest tightness, bronchoconstriction, hypersensitivity reactions including bronchospasm, angioedema, rashes & pruritus, hypotension or occasionally HTN; other GI symptoms, rash (w/ or w/o mild fever), pruritus, tachycardia.
