Ciprofloxacin
Indications/Uses
UTI, enteric infections; bone & joint infections; STD, resp tract infections. Prophylaxis against infections in granulocytopenic patients.
Dosage/Direction for Use
250-750 mg bd. Gonorrhoea & prophylaxis of meningococcal meningitis 500 mg. Patients w/ renal impairment Dosage adjustment is required.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to minimise GI discomfort. Do not take w/ antacids, Fe or dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <15 yr.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ suspected CNS disorders eg, cerebral arteriosclerosis, epilepsy. Maintain adequate fluid intake during treatment. Crystalluria may occur in a neutral or alkaline pH. Concurrent administration of antacids, theophylline & probenecid in patients w/ renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, skin reactions, CNS effects & renal, hematological & hepatic disorders, allergic reactions.
