Indications and Dosage
Oral
Menopausal hormone replacement therapy, Menstrual disorders
Adult: 5-10 mg daily in a cyclical regimen.
Contraindications
Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, severe hepatic impairment, arterial disease, porphyria, pregnancy testing, pregnancy.
Special Precautions
CV or renal impairment, DM, asthma, epilepsy, migraines, history of depression, conditions which may be aggravated by fluid retention. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, changes in appetite or weight, oedema, acne, chloasma, breast changes, hirsutism, headache, changes in serum lipids.
Drug Interactions
Enzyme-inducing drugs may enhance clearance. May inhibit ciclosporin metabolism. Antidiabetic dosage may need to be adjusted.
Action
Description: Medrogestone is a progestogen related to progesterone. It is used in hormone replacement therapy and menstrual disorders and has been used in the past for breast cancer, cancer of the endometrium and prostatic hyperplasia.
