Linagliptin
Indications/Uses
Adjunct to diet & exercise to improve glycemic control in adults w/ type 2 DM.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Should not be used in patients w/ type 1 DM or for diabetic ketoacidosis treatment.
Special Precautions
Promptly discontinue if pancreatitis is suspected. Higher rate of hypoglycemia in combination w/ insulin in patients w/ severe renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycemia, hyperlipidemia, hypertriglyceridemia, wt gain; urticaria, angioedema, localized skin exfoliation & bronchial hyperreactivity; nasopharyngitis, cough, upper resp infection (in combination w/ glimepiride); arthralgia, back pain, myalgia, pain in extremities; pancreatitis; headache; diarrhea, constipation; UTI (in combination w/ specific antidiabetics); increased uric acid.
Drug Interactions
Decreased efficacy w/ rifampicin; efficacy may be decreased by strong P-gp or CYP3A4 inducer.
